The Glums

The Glums was a long-running sketch on Take it From Here. Starring Jimmy Edwards as Pa Glum, Dick Bentley as his lazy son Ron and June Whitfield as Ron's long-suffering fiance Eth. Resident songstress Alma Cogan provided the off-mic noises that represented Ma Glum's only vocal contribution to the scripts.

The family Glum were nothing like the cosy families protrayed in shows like The Archers; Ron is the lazy young man, happy to remain at home and cared for my his parents, while Eth struggles to better herself and her fiance in the face of Pa Glum's obstinate refusal to budge from his seat in the pub.

The Glums was so popular as a separate entity that it became a LWT TV series in 1978, with Ian Lavender and Patricia Blake playing Ron and Eth.
