June Whitfield
1925 --
A much-loved comic actress, June Whitfield (why isn't it Dame June?) has worked consistently for the past sixty years. Her career began opposite a number of Britain's great radio comics, working with the likes of Frankie Howerd, Tony Hancock and Jimmy Edwards (playing the long-suffering Eth in The Glums). She was one third of the regular cast of Roy Hudd's News Huddlines, a long-running topical comedy show on BBC Radio 2.
Dame June went on to appear in many films, including four Carry Ons and appeared on BBC TV in Terry And June. Later, she would appear in Julian Clary's parody Terry And Julian. Jennifer Saunders wrote the part of Edina's Mother in Absolutely Fabulous with June Whitfield in mind.
