FUSE Free UNIX Spectrum Emulator

FUSE is the Free UNIX Spectrum Emulator but has also been ported to OS X (as well as the PocketPC and Nokia Smartphone).

An emulator is a piece of software that, not surprisingly, emulates another computer. This allows you to run software from one machine on something completely different. There are many emulators for different platforms and emulating different machines but FUSE is the best of the Mac Speccy emulators that I found.

Installation is just drag and drop and the app is very easy to use. FUSE opens TZX (tape), SNA (snapshot) or Z80 formats and saves to Z80 or RZX files. It emulates 16K/48K/128K/+2/+2A/+3/TC2048/TC2068/Pentagon and appears to automatically switch between them (though you can do so manually too).

The games run at true speed and I haven't come across any problems in use. The only issue with running games from files is not having the insert for the cassette; many games don't tell you which keys to use so you have to waste a few lives hitting every key to see what happens!
