Manic Miner (and Jet Set Willy)

Probably the first must-have game that I remember, Manic Miner is a platform game par excellence.

The aim is pretty simple: guide old Miner Willy to gather all the keys in his cavernous mine. In your way stand deadly plants, deadly robots, deadly penguins...pretty much everything is deadly in this game.

Miner Willy went on to star in a second game: Jet Set Willy. By which time he'd invested his vast fortune from the mine in a huge -- and equally deadly -- mansion. Man-eating toilets made their first (but by no means last) appearance on our computers in the game.
