A Few Songs To Play On The Ukulele
Songs for the Ukulele, like all music, are generally provided in musical notation. To identify the strumming pattern, the down- and upstroke symbols are written above the notes.
When I first started playing, though, I found it much easier to just have the words of the song with the chords written above the word that you change on (less information, less opportunity to get yourself confused). Of course, you have to know the song you're strumming to but that's the point at this stage, isn't it?
I've included a few examples that are really easy for the beginner.
Songs taken/adapted from Jumpin' Jim's Ukulele Tips 'n' Tunes... by Jim Beloff and Ukulele And Banjo DVD Tutorial by Cliff Williams, used without permission. Please see the Books/DVDs page for more details.
You can get Ukulele tabs too. Tabs (short for tablature) use numbers and symbols instead of standard musical notation. Whether you use word sheets, tabs or musical notation, you'll be able to progress with your Uke playing once you've got the basics down.
