Getting Started With The Ukulele
The first thing you need is a Uke!
eBay is a great place to pick up a decent quality, inexpensive Ukulele. IMO it's better to begin with a cheaper Uke, though plenty of people will tell you to pay the extra and get a better instrument to start with. Either way, get something that is well made and from a seller that you trust. That goes for buying from a shop or an online retailer too.
You'll also need books and/or DVDs to help you get started. There's a list of my own recommendations on the Books/DVDs page; Jim Beloff's Jumpin' Jim's book is my personal favourite.
When you've got your Ukulele and you've read/watched a bit about how to get started, it's time to tune up your Uke and start playing. To begin with you'll need to practice your strumming and your chord changes.
When you've got the basics down, it's practice, practice, practice. Boring but true :-) One of the great things about the Uke, though, is how easy it is to get started with; you actually feel you're making progress quickly, even if it still takes years of practice (that word again) to really become a good player.
